ElevenLabs alternative for repetitive prompts and high-volume notifications
Nobody leaves ElevenLabs for being bad. They leave when a feature that mostly speaks short, identical messages is billed at premium rates. If that is your bill, a cheaper alternative may be enough.
Who switches
- Your product speaks status messages, confirmations or menu prompts, not long expressive narration
- You pay per character for lines you could have generated once
- You want ready-made English industry prompts instead of writing and voicing them
What you gain
- About 98% to 99% lower list price per character than the ElevenLabs models we compared
- Downloadable packs (coming for every industry) with no per-play charge
- A searchable library of checked phrases through the API and MCP
- Your own voice at $6 per million characters
What you give up
- 70+ to 90+ languages: Speakvora has 7 with catalog clips
- Expressive range and the breadth of ElevenLabs voices
- Conversational agents billed per minute at scale
- A larger, more mature platform and its enterprise controls
The code change
Request shapes were taken from each provider's own documentation on 2026-10-08. Provider APIs change; check theirs before you migrate.

# JSON reply: {"url":"https://speakvora.com/...m4a","lang":"en","voice":"af_heart","characters":32,"format":"m4a"}
curl -s "$URL" --output prompt.m4a # second step: download (or play) the linkWhat changes in practice: ElevenLabs puts a voice ID in the URL and returns audio bytes; Speakvora takes the voice in the JSON body and returns a link. If you use a cloned ElevenLabs voice, you recreate it as a Speakvora custom voice (English supported) rather than carrying it over. The text limit is 500 characters per request, and Speakvora returns JSON with a url that you fetch or play. Library links are stable public files; custom-voice links last about five minutes.
A safe migration order
- Pick 20 of your most-spoken lines and run them through Speakvora's playground to hear them.
- Replace the speak call (shown below) for those lines only, behind a flag.
- Compare cost and listener feedback for two weeks, then expand.
- Keep ElevenLabs for the voices where sound quality is the product.
Is it actually cheaper?
ElevenLabs lists text to speech per 1,000 characters on its API pricing page: Flash/Turbo $0.04, v2 Multilingual and v3 $0.08, and v4 at $0.022 as a promotion (72% off until 12 October 2026, list $0.08). Per million characters that is $40 for Flash and $80 for the multilingual models. Speakvora's catalog voices are $0.70 per million, about 98% below Flash and 99% below the $80 models at list price.

Test these before you commit
- Have two colleagues listen blind to ten of your most-spoken lines on both services.
- Count how many of those lines already exist in Speakvora's library before you generate anything.
- List the languages you ship: the library is English-first and seven languages have catalog clips.
- Check that your usage really is short repeated messages; long expressive narration is where ElevenLabs earns its price.
