Offline voice prompts for kiosks

Short answer: A kiosk can play a downloaded pack with no network call, no per-play cost and no latency: checkout steps, scanning errors, charging status and 'an attendant is on the way'.

Why packs suit kiosks

  • The files live on the device, so a lost connection never silences the machine.
  • Playback is instant and costs nothing per play.
  • The manifest maps every sentence to a file, so your code looks up the sentence and plays the file.

Honest limits

  • The voices are synthetic. Where the law or good practice requires it, tell listeners they are hearing an automated voice.
  • Non-English audio is marked native review pending until a native speaker approves it.
  • Packs are generic, ready-made lines in the library's voices. They are not your brand voice or a script written for you; for a new sentence call the API.
  • The licence lets you play the audio inside your own apps, devices and services, commercially and offline. You may not resell or redistribute the files or use them to train speech models.

Questions

Does it work with no internet?

Yes. The pack is a set of audio files you ship with the kiosk software.

What about a sentence that is not in the pack?

Call the API when a connection exists, or add the line to your own recordings.
